Our first two British Shorthairs were 'Tibby', a British Blue and Luke, his litter brother, a Black Smoke.
We then decided to purchase a British Blue female and to embark on perhaps breeding from her. The breeder we chose to purchase her from was Mrs Iris Johnson, who unknown to us at the time had kept the British Blues going throughout the war. This was because of rationing and cat breeding was now allowed!
We purchased 'Jezreel Julette', she was the last female Iris produced. 'Julette' became the foundation queen for all our self- breeding lines.
Two years after this, we looked for a stud cat and as we always had a love for the Black Smokes that was the colour we decided on. We were again very privileged to contact Mr Michael Sutton, who had a Black Smoke kitten available called 'Champion Semra Smokeancoke'. The father of 'Smokeancoke' was the very famous Black Silver Tabby 'Grand Champion Daffingale Edwin Drood'. Michael told us that he had visited and seen over 40 kittens before deciding to purchase 'Eddie'.
'Smokey' became the foundation for our Silver Tabbies, Blue Silver Tabbies and Blue and Black Smokes. |
